EPIDOTITE
Epidotite is a greenish-colored metamorphic rock dominated by the mineral epidote
(Ca2(Al,Fe)3(SiO4)3(OH) - calcium
hydroxy-aluminoferrosilicate). The sample shown below is a banded
epidotite from the Ely Greenstone (late Neoarchean, ~2.6 to 2.7 billion
years) in the Dunka Mine area, just south of Ely & east of Babbit,
northeastern Minnesota, USA.
